DJ

With experience playing in clubs, restaurants, hotels, at weddings and on the radio, the most important thing for Kieran Meadows when DJ'ing and selecting music is maintaining a vibe -- playing songs that only feel right in the moment and appropriate for the space and type of event. Always mindful of the blend from song to song  and what is soothing to your ears, he likes to have his set take you on a journey no matter the music genre. He founded the monthly party The REFRESH in early 2014. The party's goal was to be the opposite of most other parties where people are too cool and actually quite cold -- instead a carefully curated mix of neo-soul, future beats, golden era hip-hop and lovers rock reggae provides the backing for a warm and open party environment. Checkout some mixes here.

He currently curates, DJs and hosts the weekly music program The REFRESH Radio Show on Mondays 6-9pm ET, which broadcasts live storefront style from the front window  of The Late Late Bar on Houston Street on the Lower East Side in downtown New York City. This is also a simultaneous afterwork happy hour event inside the bar, with drinks and delicious food. From March 2015 until May 2016, the show/event was broadcast on M23radio, which broadcast from the front of Meridian 23 Music Bar on W. 23rd Street. After ownership of the building changed, he established an independent and mobile radio studio on itstheREFRESH.com that now has its new home downtown at The Late Late. See here for more about The REFRESH.

DRUMMER

Kieran Meadows has played the drums since he was 13 years old. His style is rooted in "boom bap" beats a la his biggest influence, Questlove of The Roots. Other influences include Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks, Ringo Starr, Mick Fleetwood, Carlton Barrett, Sly Dunbar, Style Scott, Kirk Bennett, Dion Hopkins, Chris Daddy Dave, Daru Jones and the prolific beatmaker J Dilla. He primarily focuses on breakbeats, hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae and dancehall. He has also studied Brazilian rhythms and plays the pandeiro, rebolo, surdo, caixa and berimbau.

Currently, he plays with ILLEGALIZE, an independent hip-hop band based in Brooklyn consisting of a male & female rap duo, live drums, bass, keyboards, and a female vocalist. Their sound is a soulful blend of raw New York hip-hop, sonically rich psychedelic funk, and Brazilian undercurrents. Kieran plays drums, percussion and provides occasional vocals.

Kieran is available for studio session drumming and also for backing artists at select stage shows/tours. CONTACT for rates/availability.
